Elena Semenova

Elena Semenova was born in Magnitogorsk. She studied playing the
piano at a music school and music college. In 1995 she entered
the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where she studied singing
with Prof. Maslennikova. After graduation, she began post-graduate
studies at the Moscow Conservatory.
In 2000 she won the First Prize of the First International Elena Obraztsova Vocal
Contest and became the Grand Prix winner of the Russian National Competition “Bella
Voce.”
Since 1998 Ms. Semenova has been a principal with the Helikon Opera Company (chief
director Dmitry Bertman) and performs the following roles there: Michaela “Carmen”,
Antonia “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”, Alice
“Falstaff”, Marfa “The Tsar’s Bride”, Tatiana “Eugene
Onegin”, Blanche “Les Dialogues des Carmelites”, Mermaid “Mermaid” by
Dvorack, Servilia “La clemenza di Tito”, Mimi “La Boheme”,
Traviata “La Traviata”, Iolanta “Iolanta”, Donna Anna “Don
Giovanni”.
In 2005 Ms. Semenova covered the role of Natasha Rostova (War and Peace) and
made her successful debut as Musetta in “La Boheme” with Opera de
Paris.
She also won a prize of the Belvedere Competition in Vienna (where she also received
some special prizes, including the prize of ‘mass-media’ and the
prize for the ‘best stage presence’).
In 2006 she performed the title role in Martinu’s “Juliette” for
the Opera de Paris and concerts in China with orchestra BBC (chief conductor
Jiri Belohlavek).
In 2007, she Ms. Semenova sang Musetta “La Boheme” as a guest artist
at the Mariinsky Theatre.
In the future she will perform the Violetta as a guest artist of Estonian Opera.
She will also sing Natasha Rostova in “War and Peace” with Canadian
Opera in 2008.
