Ilya Bannik
Imperially slim Russian bass Ilya Bannik is an emerging
star at the Mariinsky Theatre and on the International Opera stage. Mr.
Bannik was a finalist in the Placido Domingo Operalia competition
in (2000, 2002), prize winner of the Rimsky-Korsakov voice competition
(1998, 2000), prize winner of the Maria Callas International Voice
Competition in Parma, Italy (2000). After the Callas competition,
Mr. Bannik was invited to sing Ferrando in Il Trovatore at Teatro
Regio, Parma. Mr. Bannik has also sung principal roles at
the Verdi Festival (Parma, Italy), Welsh National Opera, Teatro
Carlo Felice (Genoa, Italy), and is regularly seen on the Mariinsky
Theatre stage.
Highlights from Mr.
Bannik's repertoire include Samuel Ballo in Maschera, Ferrando Il
Trovatore, Banquo Macbetto, Oroveso Norma, Don Basilio Il
Barbiere di Siviglia, Mephistopheles La Damnation de Faust, Prince
Gremin Eugene Onegin, Leporello Don Giovanni, and Colline La
Boheme. Future performances include Banquo Macbetto at the
Glyndebourne Festival, and Lady Macbeth at Mtsensk Chatlet Opera Paris.
He successfully made his debut for the Paris Opera
(Salomé and Idomeneo) last season as well as for the Valencia
Opera House and the Teatro di Firenze (both Rheingold), Radio France
(Katerina Ismailova – conducted by Tugan Sokhiev) and the
Orchestre National du Capitol de Toulouse (Iolanta)
Ilya will make his debut for the Glyndebourne Festival (Macbeth)
at the beginning of next season and has future engagements amongst
others with the Valencia Opera House (Betrothal in a Monastery
and Rheingold) and the Opera National de Lille (Rigoletto).
Recently, Mr. Bannik sang Post Officer in “Nose” with
the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, London and Paris; “Betrothal
in a Monastery” in Valencia; and Sparafucile “Rigoletto” in
Lille, France.
Future contracts include “War and Peace” with
Canadian Opera; “Idoemeno” Bastille (Paris); “Faust” Den
Norske Opera; Gremin “Eugene Onegin” Antwerp, Belgium
and Sarastro “Die Zauberflöte” with Seattle Opera.
Mr. Bannik will appear as Doner “Das Rheingold”,
conducted by Maestro Zubin Metha; DVD filmed in Valencia – issue
date 2010.
